Meet Your Therapist
Brienne Pierquet (“Brie”) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in the San Francsico Bay Area offering counseling in California (LCSW 75071) and Massachusetts (LICSW 118764).
She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Castleton University in Vermont in 2002 and her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Simmons University in Boston, MA in 2009. During her career she has worked in a variety of acute medical settings including a pediatric burn center, inpatient psychtiatry and in/outpatient solid organ transplant. Her primary clinical interest in trauma has been an active part of all of her professional experience. Her interest in serving first responders began on the first day of her BSW internship, September 11, 2001 while watching first responders enter the Twin Towers from her first medical social work practicum. Working with this population has been a professional goal ever since. Brie has sought out extensive training to enhance her cultural competence in this area.
Brie has lived and worked in the Bay Area since 2011 and has been in private practice since 2018.

Why Work With Brie?
Not all trauma therapists are created equal. We are not given specific cultural competency training in all populations during our clinical education. Until recent years as a society we didn’t even talk about trauma and mental health in the first responder population as a specific issue that needed to be addressed with such cultural competency. We, as clinicians, have an obligation to seek out additional training and experience in order to be able to engage with and establish connections with this population. Clinical training in trauma treatment modalities isn’t enough and can’t be relied on as the only tool in our toolbox. This is why Brie has sought out additional training and experience both clinicially and hands-on as well as finding ways to engage with responders in the community. In addition to her required clinical training and education and professional experience here are some examples:
4 day Mile in Our Boots Academy by SC FAST (South Carolina Firefighters Assistance and Support team).
10 Week San Francisco Police Department Community Police Academy
24 hours San Francisco Fire Department Neighborhood Emergency Response Training
40 hours of cultural competency training in the Certified First Responder Counselor training with Lighthouse (formerly Acadmy Hour)
40 hours of cultural competency training in the Certified Emergency Responder and Public Safety Clincian training by the National Emergency Responder and Public Safety Center (in progress)
6 weeks training in EMDR for First Responders
3-time attendee at First Responder Conferences

>> Why should I go to therapy?
Should or shouldn’t is subjective. I’m in this line of work because life is difficult and we live in a culture that told us the way to deal with difficult things was to “not think about it”, which has never worked. I also believe you get out of it what you put into it.
>> Do you do fitness for duty assessments?
I do not. While there is a purpose for FFD assessments, I feel strongly that it would would be a conflict of interest in my capacity as an individual therapist.
>> Is what I tell you confidential?
YES. There are some legal limits to confidentiality, however. If I assess that you are an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others or abuse of children or elders, I am required by law to break confidentiality and report to the relevent agency. I cannot and would not break confidentiality for any other reason. There are some circumstances when what we discuss could be used in legal proceedings. A more common example of this is worker’s comp proceedings. This still would not be disclosed without your knowledge and discussion of the risks and benefits involved. I’m happy to discuss any questions and concerns you may have regarding your specific situation.
FAQs
>> Financial Information
My 2025 rate for individual therapy sessions is $200. That will not change without a minimum of 60 days notice. I am currently IN-NETWORK with Aetna (more may be added in the future).
I am also IN-NETWORK with CuraLink EAP. Please ask your benefits administrator for more information.I am not currently accepting new clients for sliding scale.
In 2020 LCSW therapists (as well as some other designations) were included in the No Surprises Act which was enacted due to lack of transparency in service pricing in some healthcare settings. Historically there are no surpise charges in therapy as the fee is set in advance. Click here for a sumamry of the No Surprises Act.
If you are on worker’s comp for mental health and wish to use it for therapy, please speak to your benefits administrator about how to use with with an out-of-network therapist. I will attempt to accommodate it if possible.
Worker’s Compensation: I am not in-network, however if you are using worker’s comp for therapy let’s talk. There may be an option for out-of-network reimbursement or single-case agreements.
>> Can you work with my spouse/coworker?
It is not uncommon when you find a provider you like that you would want to refer them to others. There are some ethical issues that I consider in these instances. Generally speaking I do not accept anyone living in the same household as a current client as another client. This is to protect your privacy and eliminate any potential for conflict of interest. If you refer a friend or coworker I ask that you both understand that I am unable to acknowledge whether I know either of you. When I get referrals through the EAP from the same agency, for in-person sessions, I make every attempt to ensure that you are not scheduled back to back so that you do not run into them in the office.
>> I do not live in California or Massachusetts, can you still be my therapist?
The short answer is that I cannot work with clients that are physically located outside of the 2 jurisdictions where I am licensed. If you are looking for a culturually competent therapist in another state, please check out the Certified First Responder Counselor Directory for providers in your state (and Canada).
